Xi’s speech at Central Urban Work Conference to be published

A major speech by Xi Jinping outlining a new strategy for China’s urban development will be published this Friday in the Qiushi Journal. While noting significant progress since 2012, the speech identifies emerging challenges and calls for a “new path” of modernization that moves away from raw expansion toward high-quality, people-centered growth.

The framework prioritizes the well-being of residents, intensive resource efficiency, and green, low-carbon development. Key objectives include building “smart cities” for greater efficiency, enhancing urban safety and resilience, and fostering innovation.
