Chinese President Xi Jinping said development is essential to improving people’s well-being in a congratulatory letter marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) at the UN headquarters in New York. Xi said the initiative, launched in 2021, aims to strengthen global development cooperation and support the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
According to the article, GDI cooperation projects have been carried out in more than 120 countries over the past five years. Participants from several countries praised the initiative for focusing on practical development, especially in developing countries and the Global South. They highlighted areas including infrastructure, agriculture, electricity, technology and digital connectivity, saying the initiative has helped countries strengthen their own development capacity. Xi said China is ready to continue working with other countries to promote people-centered development and sustainable development.
