Xi stresses deepening reform to comprehensively enhance strategic capabilities in emerging areas

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the armed forces to strengthen their sense of mission, deepen reform, and promote innovation to enhance strategic capabilities in emerging areas. Speaking at a plenary meeting of the People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Armed Police Force, Xi highlighted the importance of strategic capabilities in emerging areas as part of national strategies for building a great country and advancing national rejuvenation. Topics discussed at the meeting included defense capabilities in cyberspace, artificial intelligence applications, and unmanned combat capabilities. Xi emphasized the need to integrate new quality productive forces with combat capabilities, optimize maritime military preparedness, and coordinate efforts in aerospace and cyberspace defense. He called for prioritizing reform in emerging areas, fostering an innovation ecosystem, and deepening structural reform in defense-related science and technology industries.
