Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone call on May 23, 2025, at Macron’s request, to discuss bilateral relations, China-Europe cooperation, and global issues. Xi emphasized the importance of upholding the foundational values of China-France ties and called for deeper cooperation in traditional sectors like aerospace and nuclear energy, as well as in emerging fields such as green development and digital economy. He highlighted the need for people-to-people exchanges and multilateral collaboration, especially as both nations commemorate the 80th anniversary of the UN and World Anti-Fascist War victory. Xi reaffirmed support for European strategic autonomy and global cooperation. Macron, in turn, emphasized France’s commitment to the one-China policy and called for stronger China-Europe ties and coordinated action on international challenges, including regional conflicts and global peace efforts. Both leaders discussed key geopolitical issues such as Ukraine, the Palestine-Israel conflict, and Iran’s nuclear situation.
