Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for extensive search and rescue efforts and proper arrangements to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property following a magnitude-6.2 earthquake in Jishishan County, Gansu Province. The earthquake has resulted in at least 100 deaths in Gansu and 11 in neighboring Qinghai Province, causing damage to infrastructure and affecting water and electricity supply, transportation, and telecommunications. President Xi emphasized monitoring the post-earthquake situation, preventing secondary disasters, and organizing swift allocation of rescue and relief supplies. Premier Li Qiang urged all-out rescue and medical efforts, swift evaluation of the situation, and vigilance against secondary disasters. The State Council has dispatched a work team to the affected areas, and Gansu and Qinghai provinces are actively involved in disaster relief missions.
