Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday emphasized the importance of self-reliance in science and technology, calling it a key pillar in building China into a modern socialist country.
During a visit to an information technology innovation park in Beijing, Xi reviewed developments in IT applications and innovation and was briefed on the city’s efforts to accelerate the construction of an international science and technology innovation center. He also viewed major scientific achievements and spoke with researchers and technology industry leaders.
Xi highlighted the need to fully leverage China’s ability to mobilize resources, concentrate high-quality capabilities on critical challenges, and address key weaknesses to achieve the country’s strategic development goals.
