Xi Jinping congratulated Cheng Li-wun on being elected chairperson of Taiwan’s Kuomintang (KMT). He called for the CPC and KMT to strengthen their shared political foundation, deepen cross-strait exchanges, promote development, safeguard peace, and work toward national reunification.
Xi said both parties have long upheld the 1992 Consensus and opposed “Taiwan independence,” contributing to peace and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait. Cheng thanked Xi and agreed that people on both sides are part of the same Chinese nation and should work together for peace and mutual benefit.
