Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Chilean President Gabriel Boric in Beijing during a China-Latin America meeting.
This year marks 55 years of China-Chile diplomatic ties. Xi said the two countries should work closely together, support each other’s key interests, and set an example of cooperation between developing countries.
China wants to strengthen ties with Chile in areas like farming, fishing, green energy, and new technology such as AI and biomedicine. Xi also encouraged more Chinese companies to invest in Chile and welcomed more Chilean products into China.
He said both sides should share culture and knowledge through education, youth programs, and media exchanges. Xi also stressed the importance of free trade and cooperation among Global South countries.
President Boric said China is Chile’s top trading partner and that their cooperation helps both countries. He confirmed Chile supports the “one-China” policy and wants to expand trade and technology partnerships.
Boric also said trade should benefit all countries, not just one, and warned against trade wars. He called for global fairness, dialogue, and support for the United Nations.
During the visit, both countries signed several agreements in areas like trade, publishing, media, and research.
