World champions spearhead China’s 126-athlete squad for Milano Cortina 2026

China officially announced its 286-member delegation for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics on Tuesday, featuring 126 athletes who will compete in 91 events across 15 disciplines. This squad, which has an average age of 25, represents China’s largest-ever contingent for an overseas Winter Games and will be spearheaded by defending champions Gu Ailing and Su Yiming. The roster balances youth and experience, pairing 67 Olympic debutants, including 17-year-old snowboarder Ren Chongshuo, with seasoned gold medalists like short track skater Fan Kexin, aerialist Xu Mengtao, and the figure skating pair Sui Wenjing and Han Cong. Following a record-breaking performance of nine gold medals at the Beijing 2022 Games, Chinese sports officials expressed a dual goal of achieving athletic excellence and maintaining the country’s rising momentum in winter sports on the global stage.
