A senior expert from the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted the continued high public health risks globally due to the COVID-19 virus, with its circulation in all countries. Wastewater analysis estimates suggest the actual circulation of COVID-19 is two to 19 times higher than reported cases. Concerns were raised about post-COVID conditions affecting multiple organs, with around one in 10 infections potentially leading to such conditions. The evolving nature of the virus, with the COVID-19 JN.1 variant representing around 57% of global sequences, was emphasized. The expert called for simultaneous flu and COVID vaccination and increased booster shots.
