What to choose between war and peace? China’s V-Day message to the world is loud and clear

Chinese troops with UN peacekeeping experience joined a V-Day parade in Beijing for the first time on Wednesday, marking the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in World War II. Their presence highlighted China’s role in international peacekeeping and its commitment to global stability.

President Xi Jinping reviewed the troops and stressed that humanity must choose peace, dialogue, and cooperation over conflict. He reaffirmed China’s path of peaceful development and its goal of building a shared future with the world.

China is the largest troop contributor and second-largest financial supporter of UN peacekeeping missions among permanent Security Council members, having deployed over 50,000 personnel to 26 missions in the past 35 years. UN officials have praised China’s constructive role in global peace efforts.

At the parade, servicemen declared that justice, peace, and the people will prevail, echoed by banners flown overhead. Xi called on nations to remove the causes of war, learn from history, and work together for common security. The event was attended by more than 20 foreign leaders, including Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.
