Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for calm and dialogue between India and Pakistan on Saturday, urging both sides to avoid further escalation.
In a phone call with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Wang said China supports a lasting ceasefire and peaceful resolution of differences. He also condemned recent terrorist attacks in India’s Pahalgam area and emphasized opposition to all forms of terrorism.
Following four days of deadly clashes, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire and plan further talks on Monday.
Doval said India suffered heavy losses in the Pahalgam attacks but is committed to counter-terrorism and peace, stressing that war is not in either country’s interest.
