Wang Yi: President Xi Jinping’s attendance at 2nd China-Central Asia Summit renews friendship, charts course for development

According to Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, where he and the leaders of five Central Asian countries deepened ties and agreed on over 100 cooperation outcomes.

A major highlight was Xi’s introduction of the “China-Central Asia Spirit”, emphasizing mutual respect, trust, win-win cooperation, and solidarity. All six countries pledged to uphold this spirit as the guiding principle for future cooperation.

The leaders designated 2025–2026 as the Years of High-Quality Development, focusing on six key areas: trade, industrial investment, connectivity, green mining, agriculture, and personnel exchanges.

They also signed a joint action plan for Belt and Road cooperation, marking the first time China has done so with an entire neighboring region.

To support development in Central Asia, China pledged to open three cooperation centers (on poverty reduction, education, and desertification control) and offer 3,000 training opportunities over two years.

In a historic move, the six countries signed a treaty of eternal friendship, elevating their relationship to a new legal and political level. They also expanded people-to-people and cultural exchanges, including over 100 sister city partnerships.
