Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in Beijing on Wednesday, where the royal family is staying for medical check-ups and recuperation.
Wang said the friendship between China and Cambodia was established by King Father Norodom Sihanouk and earlier Chinese leaders. He noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of King Father Sihanouk’s first visit to China and said the two countries have maintained mutual respect and trust despite changes in the global landscape.
Wang added that China-Cambodia relations have entered a new stage under the guidance of both countries’ leaders. He said China is ready to deepen traditional friendship, strengthen strategic trust and expand practical cooperation for the benefit of both peoples and regional peace.
King Sihamoni and Queen Mother Monineath thanked China for its long-term support, including medical care for the royal family and assistance with Cambodia’s development. They said Cambodia highly values its friendship with China and will remain China’s “best friend” regardless of changes in the international situation.
