Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi briefed reporters on his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Plus foreign ministers’ meetings. Wang described the meeting as constructive, emphasizing mutual respect and equal dialogue.
He stated that both countries recognize the global importance of China-U.S. relations and aim to implement the consensus reached by their presidents to avoid conflict and maintain stability. Wang highlighted China’s position on key issues, saying it helped improve U.S. understanding and laid the groundwork for future diplomatic exchanges.
He summarized the discussion with four key goals: strengthening contact, avoiding misjudgment, managing differences, and expanding cooperation. Wang stressed that China and the U.S. have broad common interests and a shared responsibility to find a peaceful way to coexist in the new era, which would benefit both nations and the world.
