On August 24, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Park Byeong-seug, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s special envoy, as the two countries marked the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic ties. Wang stressed that China’s policy toward South Korea remains consistent and stable, urging both sides to consolidate friendship, expand shared interests, manage differences properly, and keep relations on a steady long-term track.
He highlighted the consensus reached between Presidents Xi Jinping and Lee Jae-myung earlier this year to advance the strategic cooperative partnership. Wang also called for joint efforts to safeguard free trade, oppose protectionism, uphold multilateralism, and strengthen UN coordination, while noting the significance of this year’s WWII and Korean Peninsula anniversaries.
Park delivered a letter from President Lee to Xi, reaffirming South Korea’s respect for the one-China principle and commitment to stronger ties. He said Seoul is ready to step up high-level exchanges, expand practical and people-to-people cooperation, and restore the strategic partnership with Beijing to full strength.
