Wang Yi: China ready to work with BRICS members to tackle pressing global challenges

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on BRICS countries to work together to address growing global challenges and support a more stable international order during a meeting of BRICS national security advisers.

Wang said BRICS has become an important force for global peace, development and fairness over the past two decades. He urged members to uphold multilateralism, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and strengthen the voice of developing countries in global affairs.

He also called for resolving conflicts through dialogue, promoting a shared approach to security, and increasing cooperation on issues such as terrorism, cybersecurity, energy and food security, strategic minerals, and the Ebola outbreak in Africa.

On emerging technologies, Wang stressed the need for stronger global governance of artificial intelligence and cyberspace, with the United Nations playing a central role.

Wang said China, which will take over the BRICS chairmanship next year, is ready to work with other members to promote peace, prosperity, and closer cooperation. Participants praised BRICS’ achievements and pledged to strengthen collaboration in building a more multipolar and equitable world.
