At the Third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced a five-point consensus between China and participating Pacific Island Countries (PICs). The agreement emphasizes mutual respect and equality, support for the one-China principle, and cooperation for common development, including aligning China’s Belt and Road Initiative with the Pacific’s 2050 strategy. Both sides pledged to uphold fairness and multilateralism, respect the autonomy of PICs in choosing development partners, and prioritize urgent issues like climate change and livelihoods. They also agreed to deepen cultural and educational exchanges and promote mutual learning between civilizations.
