Venezuelan state oil company says in talks with U.S. to sell crude oil

Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), said it is holding negotiations with the United States over the sale of crude oil, using arrangements similar to those already in place with international firms such as Chevron. The talks were announced shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Venezuela would supply the United States with high-quality oil. These developments come in the aftermath of a large-scale U.S. military operation launched on January 3, during which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were taken into custody and transferred to New York. The military action has drawn widespread international criticism, with many observers arguing that it was unlawful and largely driven by U.S. interest in Venezuela’s extensive oil reserves.
