A commemorative gala in Beijing honored the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, featuring a program titled “The Immortal Liulaozhuang” that recounted the heroic sacrifice of 82 soldiers in Liulaozhuang Village, Jiangsu Province, who defended villagers against a Japanese force far larger than their own. The village later sent 82 young men to continue the fight, earning the title “Heroic Liulaozhuang Village.”
The gala, themed “Remembering History, Honoring Fallen Heroes, Cherishing Peace, and Looking into the Future,” included songs, dances, and performances depicting pivotal moments in China’s 14-year resistance, highlighting the courage, resilience, and unyielding spirit of the Chinese people in the face of overwhelming odds.
Young directors, screenwriters, and performers born in the 1990s and early 2000s played a major role in the program, connecting historical heroism to the responsibilities of today’s youth. The gala emphasized the importance of carrying forward the spirit of resistance, cherishing peace, and contributing to the ongoing pursuit of Chinese modernization and national rejuvenation..
