Tyler Robinson, 22, remains in custody and is not cooperating with investigators in the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Sunday. Robinson is set to be formally charged Tuesday. Authorities are speaking with his friends and family, including his roommate and former romantic partner, described as a male transitioning to female, to help determine a motive.
Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA and a vocal Trump ally, was killed by a single rifle shot at an event in Orem, Utah, attended by 3,000 people. Robinson, raised in a conservative family but holding different views, reportedly expressed dislike for Kirk. Cox noted that social media may have contributed to the climate of political violence surrounding the case. A memorial for Kirk is scheduled for September 21 in Glendale, Arizona.
