The United States has announced the resumption of food aid to Somalia after a suspension earlier this month over reports of government interference. The dispute, triggered by the seizure of 76 metric tons of food aid, was resolved after Mogadishu returned the supplies, took full responsibility, and provided the World Food Programme with new warehouse facilities.
While aid is resuming, the U.S. State Department is continuing a broader review of its assistance posture. This tension coincides with a global reduction in aid under the Trump administration and heightened domestic pressure on the Somali-American community, including immigration raids and allegations of public benefit fraud in Minnesota.
