The US Senate on Wednesday failed to advance a war powers resolution aimed at limiting Donald Trump’s military operations against Iran, reflecting sharp partisan divisions. The Republican-led chamber blocked the resolution by a 53-47 vote, preventing Congress from requiring presidential approval for further strikes on Iran. Democrats criticized the military actions, with Senator Tim Kaine noting that the administration provided no evidence of an imminent Iranian threat and warning of the human and financial costs of Middle East conflicts over the past 25 years. Senator Patty Murray emphasized the risks of pursuing military operations with unclear objectives. Republicans defended Trump’s actions as necessary and accused Democrats of opposing them for partisan reasons.
