US ‘low-keying’ negotiations as Iran reshuffles key security posts

The US and Iran are adjusting their positions as uncertainty continues over their confrontation, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major sticking point. Iran’s parliament approved a strategic plan for the security and development of the waterway, while Tehran said talks with Oman on a temporary shipping route were close to an agreement. Iran stressed that this would not mean the strait was fully reopened. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said Washington was “low-keying” its approach and only “semi-negotiating” with Iran. Analysts say major disagreements remain, and renewed military tensions cannot be ruled out.
