The United States on Wednesday removed sanctions against Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez, deleting her from the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctions list, signalling a shift in Washington’s approach to Caracas.
The move—announced on the Treasury Department website—comes less than three months after US forces captured former President Nicolás Maduro in a military operation in Caracas. Washington has since engaged with Rodríguez’s interim government as part of broader efforts to normalise relations and stabilise the oil‑rich country.
Rodríguez had been sanctioned in 2018 for her role under Maduro’s government. Her delisting allows her to more freely interact with US companies and investors and reflects Washington’s recognition of her authority. The decision follows reopening of the US Embassy in Caracas and other diplomatic steps aimed at rebuilding bilateral ties.
