Tensions in the Middle East intensified this week as the United States and Iran exchanged new strikes, putting further strain on a three-week ceasefire. Iran launched attacks on US military facilities in Gulf countries after Washington carried out strikes on Iranian coastal and eastern regions.
Iranian officials condemned the US attacks, accusing Washington of threatening maritime security and violating international navigation rules. Iranian officials warned that further military action would face a strong response.
The conflict has also disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route. Maritime data showed vessel traffic through the waterway has fallen sharply as concerns grow over security. Iran said the strait would operate under its own arrangements, while warning against foreign intervention.
Despite the escalating tensions, US officials said diplomatic efforts over Iran’s nuclear program were continuing. Meanwhile, Israel said it remained prepared for possible further military action, insisting Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
