US, Denmark, Greenland sign deal to expand US military presence in Greenland

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the US, Denmark, and Greenland signed an agreement in New York to expand the American military presence on the strategic Arctic island. Following months of pressure from US President Donald Trump, the pact allows the US to modernize the Pituffik Space Base, establish new defense areas at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, and secure broad air and maritime access. Additionally, the agreement blocks non-NATO nations from establishing military installations or gaining security-sensitive control on the island, and it will take effect once Denmark and Greenland complete their parliamentary procedures.
