US and DR Congo sign a temporary migrant reception deal
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has agreed to temporarily host third-country nationals deported from the United States starting this month.
Under the deal, the U.S. will cover all logistical and technical costs, while Kinshasa provides designated holding sites near the capital for individuals who cannot be returned to their home countries. The DRC government emphasized that this is a temporary humanitarian arrangement rather than a permanent settlement, and each deportee will undergo an individual security and legal review. This agreement makes the DRC the latest African nation—following others like Uganda and Ghana—to partner with the Trump administration on its third-country deportation strategy
