Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi arrived in Beijing on Sunday for a state visit to China from February 1 to 7, his first since taking office and the first by a Latin American leader in 2026. During the visit, President Xi Jinping will hold talks with Orsi on advancing the China–Uruguay comprehensive strategic partnership, Belt and Road cooperation, and regional and global issues. China and Uruguay established diplomatic ties in 1988 and upgraded relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023, with China remaining Uruguay’s largest trading partner and top export market.
