UN chief welcomes 45-day extension of Lebanon-Israel ceasefire

António Guterres welcomed the announcement of a 45-day extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, according to the UN press office.

He reaffirmed support for efforts to end hostilities and reduce civilian suffering along the Blue Line, the UN-demarcated border between the two countries. The announcement came as Washington-hosted talks led to agreement on extending the truce, even as reports of continued violence and airstrikes in southern Lebanon were also reported.

Guterres urged all parties to fully respect the ceasefire, halt further attacks, and comply with international law, including international humanitarian law.
