UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Tuesday that China’s global initiatives are fully compatible with the UN Charter, noting their emphasis on multilateralism, support for the UN, international cooperation, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Speaking ahead of the UN General Assembly’s High-level Week, which will bring nearly 150 world leaders to New York, Guterres said he will use his more than 150 planned bilateral meetings to push for dialogue, conflict resolution, and concrete progress on issues including peace in Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan, climate action, gender equality, financing for sustainable development, and strengthening the UN.
