Ukraine says it wants ‘real peace, not appeasement’ with Russia

Ukraine’s foreign minister told the OSCE that the country wants “real peace, not appeasement” in its war with Russia. He compared appeasing Russia to the 1938 Munich Agreement, saying past “unfair peace deals” only led to bigger disasters. He thanked the U.S. for supporting peace efforts and said Ukraine will keep trying to end the war.

Peace talks remain uncertain. Recent U.S.–Russia discussions ended without progress. The U.S. had proposed a 28-point peace plan, later reduced to 19 points, but Ukraine and European countries said it favored Russia. Russia rejected Europe’s revisions, with President Putin calling them “unacceptable.”

The biggest obstacle is territory. Putin said Russia will either take the disputed areas by force or Ukraine must withdraw. Zelenskyy said his team is preparing talks in the U.S. and will continue dialogue with Trump’s representatives.

Meanwhile, fighting continues. Ukraine says it hit a major chemical plant in Russia’s Stavropol region that produces explosive components. Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure—destroying a heat and power plant in Kherson and damaging a facility in Odesa, leaving over 50,000 homes without electricity.
