Ukraine has received a positive signal indicating that talks on its accession to the European Union (EU) may commence next month. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that Ukraine is progressing towards a decision by the European Council in December of this year to open negotiations. There is a consensus among European Commission members in support of Ukraine’s aspiration for membership talks.
On November 8, the European Commission will release its recommendation regarding the initiation of accession negotiations with Ukraine, which obtained EU candidate status in June 2022. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised Ukraine for its progress in reforms during a visit to Kyiv, stating that the country has met over 90% of the conditions necessary to begin formal membership talks. The final decision on the talks will be made by the European Council in December.
