Talks between Ukraine and the United States, as well as Russia and the United States, ended in Geneva without concrete results. Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov said the goal is to make the next trilateral meeting with Washington and Moscow more substantive, with discussions focusing on Ukraine’s economic recovery and long-term support. The sides agreed to continue refining a reconstruction and investment plan.
Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev also met U.S. representatives but did not comment on the outcome. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the next trilateral talks are likely to be held in Abu Dhabi in early March to prepare for a possible leaders’ meeting. Previous rounds in Abu Dhabi and Geneva have failed to yield agreements on key issues.
The U.S. is pushing for a swift end to the conflict, with former President Donald Trump reportedly expressing a desire to resolve it within a month. However, significant gaps remain. Analysts note Ukraine’s firm stance on Donbas and security guarantees, while Russia is reluctant to accept proposals involving European troops as part of Ukraine’s security arrangements.
