The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will cut airline traffic by 10 percent at 40 airports starting Friday due to the ongoing government shutdown. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the move aims to ease pressure on air traffic controllers and prevent safety risks.
About 13,000 controllers and 50,000 airport security officers are working without pay, leading to major staffing shortages and thousands of daily flight delays. Airlines are working with the FAA to manage the cuts. The shutdown, which began October 1, has become the longest in U.S. history and continues amid political deadlock in Congress.
