Over 140 employees of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) have signed a letter condemning the Trump administration’s actions that they say are undermining the agency’s integrity and mission. The letter, sent to Rep. Zoe Lofgren of the House Science Committee, accuses the administration of politically motivated staff terminations, funding cuts, and legally questionable decisions.
Due to fear of retaliation, only one employee signed by name. The group urges Congress to protect the NSF’s scientific independence and support its role in advancing research crucial to national interests.
This protest joins similar recent statements from staff at the National Institutes of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency, and NASA, marking an unprecedented level of dissent among U.S. federal scientists.
