U.S.-Russia talks on Ukraine crisis set to begin in Saudi Arabia

The U.S. and Russia will begin talks on the Ukraine crisis on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia, with the U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Russia is forming a high-level team, but its representatives remain unnamed. Saudi Arabia will mediate the negotiations.

Ukraine and European nations were not invited but will hold separate discussions in Kyiv. U.S. President Trump stated that Ukrainians might join later if talks progress. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is currently in the UAE for economic discussions and plans to visit Saudi Arabia but will not meet with U.S. or Russian officials.

European leaders reacted strongly to their exclusion, with French President Macron set to meet EU and NATO officials. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed readiness to deploy troops in Ukraine if needed and called for increased European defense spending while emphasizing U.S. support.
