U.S. health authorities have linked an E. coli outbreak that sickened 90 people to slivered onions used in McDonald’s Quarter Pounders and other items. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified onions supplied by Taylor Farms as the source, leading to a voluntary recall and McDonald’s temporarily pulling the burgers in affected states. Among the 90 cases, 27 required hospitalization, and one elderly man in Colorado died. After negative E. coli tests, McDonald’s announced it would resume Quarter Pounder sales. E. coli can cause severe stomach symptoms but typically resolves without treatment.
