Trump sworn in as 47th U.S. president

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025, beginning his second term after four years away from the White House. The indoor ceremony, held in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, marked the first indoor inauguration in 40 years due to cold weather. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath.

In his inaugural address, Trump declared the “golden age of America begins now” and promised major changes through executive orders. Key priorities include declaring a national emergency at the southern border, boosting oil and gas production, revoking the electric vehicle mandate, overhauling trade, and imposing tariffs on foreign nations.

He pledged to lower prices, save the auto industry, and restore law and order. Trump also announced plans to end diversity and inclusion policies, establish a “colorblind and merit-based” society, and make it U.S. policy to recognize only two genders. He promised to build the strongest military, prioritize peace, and change the Gulf of Mexico’s name to the Gulf of America while reclaiming the Panama Canal.

Additionally, Trump reiterated his intention to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Agreement on climate change. JD Vance was sworn in as vice president before Trump took the oath.
