U.S. President Donald Trump said he will not send American troops into Ukraine but suggested the U.S. could provide air support as part of a possible peace deal. He described his negotiating approach as “instinct more than process.”
The comments came after Trump pledged security guarantees for Ukraine at a White House summit, though details of U.S. aid remain unclear. Meanwhile, Russia launched one of its biggest air assaults in weeks, targeting energy facilities in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the talks a step forward and is pushing for a trilateral meeting with Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with possible venues including Budapest, Istanbul, or Switzerland. Trump said he might not attend, preferring Zelenskyy and Putin meet directly.
Allies of Ukraine are also considering new sanctions and security guarantees, while NATO military leaders prepare to discuss the war.
