Donald Trump, the U.S. President-elect, suggested keeping TikTok operational in the U.S. after acknowledging its role in reaching key voters during the presidential election. Speaking at a conservative event in Arizona, Trump praised the app’s massive engagement, expressing openness to its continued use.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court will review TikTok’s challenge to a law requiring its sale by January 19 or face a ban over national security concerns. TikTok argues the ban violates free speech rights and would disrupt communication for millions of Americans. The court will hear arguments on January 10.
The law, enacted by President Joe Biden in April, mandates ByteDance to sell TikTok within 270 days or risk app store removal. TikTok has faced legal setbacks, including a December dismissal of its claim that the ban is unconstitutional.
