Trump pauses Canada tariffs as Trudeau pledges border crackdown

President Donald Trump announced a 30-day pause on tariffs against Canada to negotiate a final economic deal. Canada agreed to strengthen border security, combat fentanyl trafficking, and enhance cooperation with the U.S. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed Canada’s $1.3 billion border plan, new surveillance measures, and a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force. Trump also paused tariffs on Mexico after talks with President Claudia Sheinbaum. The tariffs, initially set at 25% on Canadian imports and 10% on energy products, had sparked immediate Canadian retaliation. The temporary pause allows further negotiations.
