The US government has suspended Microsoft, Adobe and several major IT outsourcing firms from a key employment-based green-card program, while opening investigations into nine universities over alleged visa fraud. Vice President JD Vance said the actions aim to prevent abuse of immigration programs and protect American workers’ jobs and wages.
Microsoft disputed the criticism, saying about 80% of its H-1B visa applications last fiscal year were for existing employees rather than new hires. The universities under investigation include Harvard, Yale, Stanford and MIT. The move is part of President Donald Trump’s broader effort to tighten skilled-worker immigration and limit pathways to permanent residency.
