In Huaibei, east China’s Anhui Province, the world’s largest ethanol production equipment, capable of annually producing 600,000 tonnes, has entered the trial phase. Developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum, and constructed by Tanxin Technology Co., the equipment converts coke oven gas into ethanol. This process enhances the value of coal and provides a viable method for the low-carbon development of the steel and petrochemical industries. Ethanol, a crucial gasoline additive and basic chemical, is typically produced from crops like grain and sugarcane. The new technology, DMTE, uses synthesis gas to produce absolute ethanol, addressing China’s substantial demand in the ethanol market. The trial operation has confirmed the advanced nature and reliability of DMTE, contributing to China’s food security, energy security, and chemical industry chain. The research team has already signed multiple technology implementation contracts, indicating the potential for large-scale industrialization.
