The China-Laos Railway has initiated a cross-border tourist train service from Beijing to Vientiane, the capitals of China and Laos, respectively. The 15-day round trip covers scenic stops such as Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng. The 1,035-km railway, a key project of the Belt and Road Initiative, began operations in December 2021, facilitating significant cargo transport with 9.62 million tonnes in the first half of 2023 alone. Cargo volume across borders saw a remarkable increase of 94.7%, reaching 2.3 million tonnes. The railway has also transported over 3 million passengers since its inception, carrying 1,759,900 passengers in 2023.
