Torrential rains and floods wreak havoc in NW Pakistan

At least 344 people have died in Pakistan over the past 48 hours due to rain-triggered floods and related disasters, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province hardest hit. Most fatalities (about 91 percent) were caused by flash floods, while some resulted from roof collapses.

Heavy rains, flash floods, and lightning have affected 11 districts in KP, leaving several people missing and causing widespread destruction. Rescue teams are working to aid survivors and recover bodies.

Since the start of the monsoon season in June, Pakistan has seen 634 deaths, over 700 injuries, and nearly 1,900 houses collapse. Other provinces affected include Punjab, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad.
