Toronto’s stadium hosts record crowd in dress rehearsal for World Cup

Toronto’s BMO Field successfully hosted a record-breaking crowd of 44,828 during a match between Toronto FC and Inter Miami, serving as a critical test run just one month before the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The event marked the debut of a newly installed temporary stand, part of a $158 million renovation that added 17,000 seats to meet FIFA capacity standards. This “dress rehearsal” allowed city officials to evaluate stadium amenities and transit services ahead of the six World Cup matches scheduled for the venue.
The tournament, running from June 11 to July 19, is expected to draw over 300,000 visitors to the city. Canada will begin its campaign in Toronto against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12, with subsequent group matches against Qatar and Switzerland taking place in Vancouver. Additionally, Toronto is set to host high-profile matchups featuring international heavyweights Germany and Croatia during the group stage.
