Three Japanese ministers, including Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Junji Suzuki, and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ichiro Miyashita, have resigned amid a major kickback scandal in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The resignations come in the wake of accusations that the LDP’s largest faction failed to declare significant amounts of fundraising events revenue in political funding reports, potentially involving secret funds. LDP lawmaker Michiko Ueno, an advisor to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, has also announced her resignation in connection to the scandal. The LDP, particularly its Seiwaken faction, led by the late former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, has faced intense scrutiny over the alleged financial irregularities.
