Google has signed an agreement with the United States Department of Defense to provide its AI models for classified government work, joining firms like OpenAI and xAI.
The deal allows the Pentagon to use Google’s AI for lawful government purposes, including sensitive classified operations. The agreement says the AI is not intended for domestic mass surveillance or autonomous weapons without human oversight, though Google cannot veto lawful government decisions.
Google said it supports both classified and non-classified government projects while maintaining safeguards around AI use.
