Thailand’s Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra after accepting a petition that accuses her of violating the constitution. The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until the court issues a final ruling. The petition, filed by a group of senators, claims Paetongtarn committed a serious ethical breach during a phone conversation with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen regarding a border issue. Paetongtarn, 38, is the leader of the Pheu Thai Party and the daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. She became Thailand’s youngest and second female prime minister in August 2024.
